CODE3011: A Photobook About Footscray

CODE3011 is a new photobook documenting the mood of one of Melbourne’s most troubled suburbs, Footscray.

On April 17, 2025, Somali man Abdifatah Ahmed was shot dead by police in Footscray’s central precinct. In the weeks after, local resident and journalist Ali MC wandered the tense, grimacing streets with film camera in hand. Protests, people, police and urban landscapes blur into a grainy visual chronicle of a suburb under siege in CODE3011.

CODE3011 will be launched alongside an exhibition of local street photographer Toni Gedjo, with copies of the book available for purchase.

About Ali MC
Photographer and writer Ali MC has spent the last decade documenting human rights crises from regions such as Iran, Timor Leste and Myanmar, and locally in Naarm/ Melbourne. He holds a Masters in Human Rights Law, and has worked extensively for Al Jazeera and in remote Indigenous community media.

About Toni Gedjo
Macedonian-born, Footscray-bred street photographer Toni Gedjo began his romance with photography six years ago with the legendary Leica M6. As a local barber in the precinct, Gedjo documents Footscray’s bustling streets and diverse cultures, using the lens to deeper understand the human condition.
